Give us this day our daily bread.

Over the last few months the Lord has been consistently teaching me what it looks like to trust him and trust that he is true to his promises. Let me preface this to say this blog is not about money…it’s about how the Lord shows up when you ask.

Every morning on my 30 minute drive to class I pray. I pray the Lord’s prayer most days.

“Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be your name.

 Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the Kingdom and the power

and the glory forever. Amen.”

I am a missionary and with that call comes financial responsibilities. Myself and my classmates in CGA are all fundraising for our capstone trip to Morocco and our time in the program itself.

I need $6,000 for Morocco and $8,650 to be fully funded. Every day I pray “give us Lord our daily bread.”  I pray for God to provide what I need today…not what I need for the week, or the month, or for the 8 months in CGA.

About 2 weeks ago I still needed about $2,700 to get to my $6,000 goal. As of today I need $600 to get to my goal.

A few months ago I read Isaiah 45:18-19

For the Lord is God,
and he created the heavens and earth
    and put everything in place.
He made the world to be lived in,
not to be a place of empty chaos.
“I am the Lord,” he says,
    “and there is no other.
 I publicly proclaim bold promises.
I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner.
I would not have told the people of Israel to seek me
if I could not be found.
I, the Lord, speak only what is true
and declare only what is right.

As I read these verses I felt the Lord was speaking them over me. He did not invite me to serve others to leave me alone. He invited me with the promise that he would provide.

I think he can give me all $8,650 right now if he choses, but he is teaching me to trust him and his promises.

He is teaching me to ask for what I need today and know that is enough.

Yesterday one of my roommates read this chapter in Luke…

Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear.  For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!…And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?   Luke 12:22-28

We have a Father that knows what we need before we ask. He loves us far more than the birds and they still eat every day.

So be okay with what the Lord gives you today.

Your daily bread is enough.

We’re doing the thing in Georgia!

Much love, Carson
